An Inherited Service AddressAn Inherited Service Address is derived by traversing asset and location hierarchies until a Service Address is found. More is derived by traversing asset and location hierarchies until a Service AddressA Service Address is a postal address and/or a record that positions a point on a map. More is found.
In the Locations application and the Manage Systems dialog you will find an Address System. This is normally set to the same hierarchy as the primary hierarchy, it cannot be set on a network location system.
A Service Address is either explicitly defined on an Asset or Location record or it can be derived from an ancestor asset, an asset’s location, or one of the location ancestors in the address system hierarchy.
For example, if the only Service Address is on the Needham location at the very top of the primary location hierarchy, then all its descendant locationsA physical place where assets exist and where work can be performed. More and their assets will have the same service address. If you created a Service Request or Work Order against asset 1006 then the Service Address found on location Needham will be copied to that record.
This is a derived Service Address and while you will find a reference to the ancestor record the service address will not be found on the database records of the descendant locations and assets.
