
A Location System is a set of operating locationsA location with a location type of OPERATING. More joined together into a hierarchy or network.
The Manage Systems action in the Locations application is used to define a location system. A system is often geographic based, but it can also be a grouping of locationsA physical place where assets exist and where work can be performed. More that support a connected set of assets, for example the HVAC assets, water, electric, or sanitary systems. A location system could be used for reporting purposes, data security, outage management, to connect the assets in a manufacturing line or the assets connected by a conveyor system.
All the locations in a location system must be of type OPERATING. They are formed into a hierarchy or a network, in a network a location can have multiple parents, only one parent in a hierarchy. One hierarchical location system in each site can be marked as the Address System which is used to derive a Service AddressA Service Address is a postal address and/or a record that positions a point on a map. More for a location or asset.
When joined into a hierarchy or network the operating locations are added to two objects LOCHIERARCHY and LOCANCESTOR, these are Site level objects.
