Q1 – What is the best description of a lot item?
- A – An item to be sold at an auction.
- B – An item associated with a locationA physical place where assets exist and where work can be performed. More, for example a car park or a plot of land.

A lot item in Maximo is where a quantity of the item has the same expiration date, for example paints, chemicals and container gases. You would normally issue from the same lot and the lot which will expire first.
Lots are terms used in auctions, plots of land, parking lots is an alternative term to car parks, and a high quantity is – a lot – all red-herrings in the context of Maximo.

Q4 – When a Lot Item is received which two fields should be considered mandatory (they are all relevant)?
- A – Manufacturer
- B – Manufacturer Lot
- C – To Lot
- D – Shelf Life (Days)
- E – Expiration Date
Answer – C and E
The To Lot is the Lot Number assigned by Maximo through the use of an autokey, it is marked as mandatory. The Expiration Date although not marked as mandatory guides Maximo into which lot to consume first when items are issued.
The Manufacturer and Manufacturer Lot will normally be recorded, the Shelf Life calculates the Expiration Date.

Q5 – True or False
You can record and save the lot information of a direct issue purchased item that is not held in a Maximo storeroom after receipt.
Answer – False
The Lot information recorded during the receiving process is stored in the INVLOT table which is held against a storeroom. The primary key of INVLOT is ITEMNUM, LOTNUM, LOCATION (the storeroom), SITEID. The data can be entered but it is not saved.
If you need to record the information then you will need to make the Lot Item a non-stocked item, add it to a storeroom with a zero Reorder Point, and order it using the Inventory Reorder process.

Q6 – Which two Lot fields are displayed in the View Item Availability dialog – All Lots tab, and which two fields would be usefully configured?

Q10 – You receive a quantity of 10 gas canisters for a lot item under the same lot and expiration date. How can you track each gas canister separately?
Answer
By creating 10 inventory balance records each with a Current Balance of 1 and with a separate lot number, for example 1005-01, 1005-02, 1005-03, etc.
A Lot Item cannot be set to rotating, therefore you cannot create assets to track each gas canister.
