Asset Specification

The Asset Specification is a set of attributes associated with the Asset Classification that describe the asset.

The set of attributes are defined in the Classifications application, the attributes may come from any level in the classification hierarchy, for example some attributes are common to all Pumps, and other attributes may be specific to a Centrifugal Pump.

There are four data types of classification attribute, ALN, Numeric, Table, and Date. ALN (alphanumeric) and Numeric may have an associated domain to provide a set of values, a table type must have an associated table domain. All attributes can be marked as mandatory which means that after you associate the classification with the asset, then if there are mandatory attributes, a value will need to be provided before a save is successful. All types except Date may have a default value.

Locations also have a specification which operates identically with one exception. Assets and Locations that reference a Rotating Item will have their attribute values defined on the associated Item Master record. It is possible to override this with a hidden field.

There is an Attribute Search on Asset and Location fields across Maximo, this allows you to select attributes and provide values then refine the search based on those values. A list of assets (or locations) which meet the filter criteria will be shown.

For Assets (and not for Locations) a change to an attribute value is recorded and can be viewed from the action and dialog called View Asset Specification History.

Assets and Locations and hence their specification details are defined at the Site level.
