A MeterA Meter is an identifier for recording meter readings, measurements and observations on assets or locations. More is an identifier for recording meter readings, measurements and observations on assets or locationsA physical place where assets exist and where work can be performed. More.
Once defined, a meter is added to an asset or location. There are three meter types.
Continuous meters are associated with meter readings where the value increases over time unless it reaches a point at which the meter rolls over and returns to zero. For example, the odometer in a vehicle. There would be an associated unit of measure, miles or kilometres. You will need to decide whether the meter readings will default to actual values or a delta value, the difference between the last and current meter reading.
Gauge meters are associated with measurements where the value can fluctuate over time, for example temperature or pressure. A unit of measure will also be required.
Characteristic meters are associated with observations, the acceptable values are defined by a domain, which must be defined first. A unit of measure is not used with a characteristic meter.
The Meters application is used for creating meters of each type. The identifier, is called the meter name. You cannot create a location meter or asset meter until the meter name has been defined. These meter references are defined at the System level.
