Meter Group

A Meter Group is a set of meters and can include all three meter types.

Assets and locations can have multiple meters. When the meter group is applied to an asset or location all the meters and their meter details are copied. You may start out with using only meters of type continuous, and if there is only one meter wonder why you should also create a meter group. It may be years later, but when you come to creating gauge or characteristic meters on the same assets or locations you will be pleased to have created a meter group.

There are settings in the Meter Group, like “Apply New Meters Where Group Is Used?” which controls whether a new meter added to the meter group is also added to all the assets and locations that reference that meter group.

A Meter Group can be associated with an item in the Item Master application if the item is marked as rotating. When an asset or location references the Rotating Item the Meter Group is copied and this creates the asset or location meters for those that belong to the meter group.

On an Asset Template when a meter group is referenced the meters of the meter group are copied to the asset template.

For Continuous meters there are some additional fields that can be defined on the Meter Group, for example the point at which the meter rolls over, or the method used to calculate the Average Units/Day.

Meter Groups is a System level object.
