Repair Location

Repair Locations are places where assets are moved to be repaired or refurbished.

When you create a location choose a location type of REPAIR for internal repair workshops and VENDOR for external repair workshops performed by the manufacturer or a specialist company.  For repair locations of type VENDOR, the location may be the same or like the Company identifier.

Locations of type REPAIR and VENDOR are standalone locations which cannot be a part of a location hierarchy. If you wish to have a hierarchy in a repair workshop, perhaps because there are bays where repairs are performed, and you wish to schedule the use of those bays, then use instead a Repair Facility.

You use the action Move/Modify Asset to move an asset to a Repair Location, the To Location Select Value has the location type as a column. This will create an ASSETTRANS record which can be seen from the action View Asset Move History.

When moving an asset from one site to another site, then a VENDOR location can be used while the asset is in transit. If the asset will not be moved off-site for a few days, then you might create a synonym of VENDOR in the LOCTYPE synonym domain and call it TRANSIT. Work can be performed on assets in a Repair Location and the asset will normally remain at Operating status.

The ASSETTRANS record does have General Ledger fields, however, in the case of these repairs it is not considered a financial transaction in Maximo. The Debit GL Account is the GL Account of the destination location, and the Credit GL Account is the GL account of the source location, and you will find that it merges the GL Accounts from the asset and the location. When the asset arrives at its new site you use the Move/Modify Asset action a second time to move it from the VENDOR (or TRANSIT) location to a location at the destination site.

Repair Locations exist at the SITE level.
