Service Address

A Service Address is a postal address and/or a record that positions a point on a map.

Service Addresses are most often defined in the Service Address application, although they can be created from both the Locations and Assets applications using the action Create New Service Address. The Service Address application will be found in the Administration module and a Service Address is defined at the Organization level. There is a Site field, but this is only used for reference and will often be left blank. There is a Street Address, two additional address fields, a City and a Zip/Postal Code. There are other fields that can be used for a postal address, but these will normally be sufficient.

The map position is defined with two other fields Latitude (Y) and Longitude (X). You can set these by using the Map tab, zooming in to place the point accurately. The map provider should derive the nearest address, and this will be held in the Formatted Address field. The co-ordinate system being used is defined in the Organizations application under Service Address Options.

The service address will often be shared by many location and asset records. The Inherited Service Address is a derived service address found by navigating up the asset and location hierarchies. Whether the service address is explicitly defined on a location or asset, or it is derived from the hierarchies, when the asset or location is entered on a work order or service request the service address will be copied, it can then be amended for that specific record.

When finding a service address on the Locations and Assets applications, there are a few options; the Select Value will show the Service Address description, ideally you would populate this with the address fields and zip/postal code, concatenated together. There is no standard function for this in Maximo, but a script can be created to provide this.
