Organization

A structural element of a Maximo database. A common phrase is that Maximo has a multiple organization and multiple site data structure. Multiple sites can exist in an organization. The key fields are ORGID and for a site it is SITEID.

An organization is used for data sharing. A site is used for data separation. Common elements like locations, assets and work orders are defined at the site level. Reference data like calendars, vendors, crafts, labor, and financial records are defined at the organization level and shared across multiple sites that belong to the organization.

It is common for an Organization to represent a legal entity in a client’s organisation. This eases the integration with financial systems. You cannot change the identifier of an organization (ORGID) or site (SITEID) after they have been created, therefore how you determine what your Maximo organization represents is a key step that you need to make, and you need to make it early in an implementation. Ideally you should look into the future and consider where your Maximo journey will take you. Even if you do not plan a financial interface, it may still be better to consider how your organization would look if you did have an interface.
