Q2 – Why should you consider adding an autokey to the Item number?
Answer
Some reasons:
- You typically have thousands of items, creating them is easier with an autokey.
- You cannot delete an item, but an item can be repurposed if it has been created but not used.
- An autokeyed number will be shorter than a coded value, which is more likely to require horizontal scrolling in an Item field to see the whole value.

Q7 – A three part question:
- Why would you use the Meter field on an item?
- What type of items is it generally used with?
- Can you provide an example of how it could be used to determine when maintenance should be performed?
Answer
When you issue an item the quantity is used to increment the meter on an asset if the meter name matches that on the item.
It is most often used with fluids, like diesel, petrol or oil. For example, 10 litres of petrol is issued to a tractor mower, the mower’s meter with the same name is incremented by 10 and you can maintain the mower when it has used 200 litres of petrol through a meter-based PM.

Q10 – A two part question:
Which application(s) allow you construct an Item Assembly Structure?
- A – Item Master
- B – Service Items
- C – Tools
Which types of record can you apply an Item Assembly Structure?
- A – Asset
- B – LocationA physical place where assets exist and where work can be performed. More
- C – Asset TemplateA template for generating and updating similar assets. More
Answer – 1st part A, 2nd part A, B
You can only construct an Item Assembly Structure in the Item Master application. It would also be useful in the Tools application as Tools can also have assets, but it isn’t available.
You can apply an Item Assembly Structure (IAS) to an asset or a location when they reference a rotating item. You cannot apply an IAS to an asset template, but it would be useful if you could construct a hierarchy so that you could apply it to assets to create their subassemblies without resorting to using a rotating item.
