Location Type

There are eight location types of which the most common one is an Operating Location.

When you use the Select Value on the Type field when creating a new record in the Locations application you will find seven location types. The Types are:

  • OPERATING (see Operating Location)
  • REPAIR, VENDOR (see Repair Location)
  • SALVAGE (see Salvage Location)
  • LABOR (see Labor Location)
  • COURIER (see Transit Location)
  • HOLDING (see Holding Location)

The eighth location type is STOREROOM, created from the Storerooms application, each storeroom is saved in the same table as the other locations. A storeroom is used in inventory processes.

Operating locations are the only type created in the Locations application that can exist in a hierarchy or network.

Repair, Vendor and Salvage are locations where assets can be moved, Repair and Vendor are used for internal and external asset repairs, a salvage location is used at the end of an asset’s life.

Labor and Courier locations are inventory type locations that may hold stock for a temporary period, they are called transit locations. A Labor Location has some differences.

A Holding location is used in the Receiving processes and only one can exist in each Site

Locations is a Site level object, and the TYPE field is defined as UPPER(16).
