When you use the Select Value on the Type field when creating a new record in the Locations application you will find seven location types. The Types are:
- OPERATING (see Operating Location)
- REPAIR, VENDOR (see Repair LocationRepair Locations are places where assets are moved to be repaired or refurbished. More)
- SALVAGE (see Salvage LocationSalvage Locations are places where assets are moved at their end of life. More)
- LABOR (see Labor LocationLabor Locations are inventory type locations that maintain item balances. More)
- COURIER (see Transit LocationA location that temporarily holds inventory that is “in transit”. More)
- HOLDING (see Holding LocationA holding location is used in financial accounting during the receiving process, it is not a physical location. More)
The eighth location type is STOREROOM, created from the Storerooms application, each storeroom is saved in the same table as the other locationsA physical place where assets exist and where work can be performed. More. A storeroom is used in inventory processes.
Operating locations are the only type created in the Locations application that can exist in a hierarchy or network.
Repair, Vendor and Salvage are locations where assets can be moved, Repair and Vendor are used for internal and external asset repairs, a salvage location is used at the end of an asset’s life.
Labor and Courier locations are inventory type locations that may hold stock for a temporary period, they are called transit locations. A Labor Location has some differences.
A Holding location is used in the Receiving processes and only one can exist in each SiteA structural element of a Maximo database that is used for data separation. More.
Locations is a Site level object, and the TYPE field is defined as UPPER(16).
